National organizations dedicated to promoting the acupuncture profession:
The American Society of Acupuncturists (ASA) is the national professional organization which APA Penn is a member and supporter. Founded in 2015, membership is comprised of state acupuncture associations and represents state-association members and licensed professionals who practice acupuncture in all its forms. "The Mission of the American Society of Acupuncturists is to promote the highest standards of professional practice for Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine in the United States, thereby to benefit the public health. Through strengthening the profession at the state level while promoting collaboration nationally and internationally, the ASA provides its members, the public, legislators, and regulators resources for ensuring the best expression of this ancient and modern medicine."
The Acupuncture Now Foundation (ANF) "Making the benefits of acupuncture known and available to all". The ANF is a non-profit foundation in the U.S. and greatefully accepts donations (tax deductible!) to help fund its mission. Their mission is to elevate acupuncture's impact on easing suffering and enhancing health through accurate information about its best practices. They are dedicated to educating the public, healthcare professionals, adn health policy makers about the practice of acupuncture. The leadership of the ANF consists of volunteers dedicated to our vision of making acupuncture better understood and more widely available.
The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®) is a non-profit 501(c)(6) organization established in 1982. The NCCAOM is the only national organization that validates entry-level competency in the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) through professional certification. NCCAOM certification or a passing score on the NCCAOM certification examinations are documentation of competency for licensure as an acupuncturist by 43 states plus the District of Columbia which represents 98% of the states that regulate acupuncture.
